Consulting

I offer my services to small and medium sized companies. I will not take a job if I am not convinced that I am competent to do it properly.

Services

I can assist in the following areas:

Networking

I have more than 10 years of experience with IP-based networking on all layers from the link (e.g. Ethernet) to the application layer (e.g. HTTP) and thus can assist in solving a very wide range of problems.

Examples of networking tasks:

IPv6
I offer both advice on how to implement it in an organisation as well as directly implementing it.
Server building and setup
I can advise companies about server purchasing as well as server configuration to handle internal as well as external service demands (e.g. web, mail and file servers). I can also provide ongoing maintenance or staff training for this.
Threat assessment
I can provide an organisation with an overview of threats and advise on how to counter them. I can also suggest alternatives to existing software and educate employees in using this software if necessary.

Access control

Access control can be done in many ways depending on the requirements.

Network access control using firewalls
Based on a company policy for access to services, I set up a firewall or similar measures to enforce this policy.
Introduction of advanced access control
Most, if not all, reports show that weak passwords or improper password handling are among the major security concerns for companies. I offer to introduce supplements to (or, better yet, replacements for) passwords in order to gain better security by making user accounts harder to compromise.

Staff training

I can train staff in various ways. Below are examples but the list is not complete, so feel free to contact me.

Secure behaviour in offices
Office personnel often unknowingly pose a serious security threat to companies because it is often a very easy and effective attack vector. They risk serving as "trojan horses" because of social engineering or simple ignorance about security threats. I can teach staff how to avoid compromising security by teaching them secure behaviour as well as how to detect social engineering attempts.
Unix system administration basics
I can train staff in basic Unix administration to spare companies from hiring new employees. I will be using a free, open-source Unix such as OpenBSD.
TCP/IP networking
This will be a course about the core of the TCP/IP protocol suite covering routing and other necessary concepts for configuring and maintaining TCP/IP networks. Covers both IPv4 and IPv6.

Pricing

My base fee is 80EUR/hour but actual billing rate depends on conditions such as working hours and other relevant conditions. For projects lasting more than a full day a special price may be negotiated.

Contact

I prefer to be contacted via email because it is the least intrusive method.
